Tour Description

The routes cover the area that descends from Lake Varese to the South, incorporating Monate Lake and Comabbio Lake and reaching the area surrounding the Malpensa airport. The tour is suitable for those who want to enjoy unusual views without having to face challenging tracks or for those who want to enter the woods with the possibility of some descents a little more technical, but still enjoyable. The area is mostly flat with pleasant single tracks and a few short steep climb up.

PLAIN OF VEGONNO

The green plain is the culmination of a very enjoyable bike ride that undoes among the most pristine valleys of the Varese province, and which will welcome you with a wonderful view of the Monte Rosa chain, Campo dei Fiori and Grigna. The route can be started by Vergiate, between fields and woods that surround Crugnola,
Mornago, Montonate. Once you arrive at the plain, you converge on Daverio and still in the Woods you reach Casale Litta, Bodio, and finally Bernate where there is a beautiful educational farm.  From here, if you do not decide to continue to Lake Varese, you can return with several alternatives.

2 LAKES

A tour that joins, through the dirt track of the Brabbia swamp, the 15 km cycle path of the small and evocative lake of Comabbio with that the 30 km of Lake Varese. With little difference in altitude, it's packed with striking places (5 equipped parks) to stop for a photo or coffee, or visit nearby attractions.

3 LAKES

This route is one of the most "roadly" available. More than half can be travelled by road to make it easier and to speed up the journeys. It joins the lakes of Comabbio, Monate and Maggiore with different opportunities of
itineraries that allow different views and touch all the significant points of the area. From Ternate's quarry to Osmate and Monate (famous for peaches), to the Quassa Park along the lake meeting also the furnace area in Ispra, Ranco (suggestive the pier) and Angera where you can get up to Lisanza among dirt roads avoiding the busy provincial road.

WASHPATH

This route has the most characteristic stretch in the plain that crosses Travedona and Bregano, tiny village perched on a hill near the North West shore of Varese Lake and bordering the Bardello swamp. It is also called "the mill trail" (or washerwoman) because the area is full of streams and creeks. It is usually divided into equal sections between dirt roads, cycle paths and normal roads, with a difference in altitude between 200 and 300 meters.

horses and woodland

A walk that only superficially can appear as reductive. From Vergiate you cross the Strona stream and in the woods of the moranic hills you reach the plain of Centenate. There we find an impressive stable and the pond of Lagozza, an important prehistoric site. Between the adjacent woods of Arsago and Somma Lombardo we have several paths that intersect on different altitudes, between protected ponds and wetlands.

Executioner valley and  divided mountain

The scenario of this tour is the "executioner's valley", a dense hill that stretches from Cavaria con Premezzo to Jerago con Orago crossed by tracks at different heights and furrowed by a small stream. Beside is located the Monte Diviso in Crenna, a hamlet of Gallarate, where from the top you can enjoy a beautiful panorama towards Milan.

PONDS, CANALS, RIVERS

A route from Vergiate or from Centenate-Besnate,  that through ponds and marshes descends to the canals (Villoresi in the first place) and the entrance of Ticino in Panperduto area. Close, the river bend in Castelnovate and the pine forest of Golasecca are very valuable.

AROUND THE AIRPORT

The invasive dimension of man on nature can be perceived following the perimeter of the Malpensa Airport. Despite the noise of aircrafts that signals its presence, in reality the surrounding area is a natural area dense with nature. We can travel the perimeter in both directions, perhaps arranging a stop on the lookout in Tornavento or at the Agusta museum in Cascina Costa.
